Mitbana and Sinar Mas Land set up COVID-19 vaccine centre at Terminal Intermoda in BSD City, Tangerang in support of Indonesia’s nationwide vaccination drive

Singapore, 12 August 2021 – PT Sinar Mitbana Mas (SMM) Intermoda, a partnership company of Mitbana (joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and Surbana Jurong) with Sinar Mas Land, has established a vaccination centre to support the Indonesia government’s nationwide vaccination drive and efforts to combat COVID-19. The vaccination centre is located at Terminal Intermoda BSD City, beside the Intermoda transit-oriented development (TOD) site upon which Mitbana and Sinar Mas Land are jointly developing the first interconnected multi-modal transport complex in Greater Jakarta.

The vaccination centre is being set up in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, the Tangerang Regency Government and its Health Agency (through its branch Cisauk Public Health Centre), ITC Group (Sinar Mas Land’s subsidiary trade centre company), YPK Mandiri Hospital, Fast Med (an Indonesian company providing medical products and services), as well as Germas (Indonesia’s Healthy Lifestyle National Movement). These efforts are in support of the Indonesian government’s plans to accelerate vaccinations across the country, to achieve a target of inoculating two-thirds of its population by end 2021.

The Indonesian government will provide the COVID-19 vaccine doses, and the vaccination centre is expected to be able to cater to about 5,000 people aged 12 years old and older, over the five-day administration period from 12 to 16 August 2021. A second vaccination dose will be administered 28 days later, at the same location.

Mr Gareth Wong, Chief Executive Officer of Mitbana and President Director of PT SMM Intermoda, said, “Amid these challenging times, Mitbana stands in solidarity with the people of Indonesia and is committed to supporting community efforts to tackle COVID-19. Together with Sinar Mas Land, we are glad to be able to apply our combined expertise to adapt the existing Intermoda bus interchange for alternative uses to address the ongoing pandemic. As we develop the new Intermoda TOD, we hope to create more public spaces which can contribute to the safety and well-being of the communities we serve, as well as forge greater social resilience to address life beyond the pandemic.”

Mr Hidetoshi Suzuki, Chief Operating Officer of Mitbana and Board Director of PT SMM Intermoda, added, “Mitbana and Sinar Mas Land remain committed to fulfilling our plans to create a smart and sustainable transit-oriented development at BSD City. Leveraging best practices from some of our projects in Japan and Singapore, we will use digitisation and innovative urban solutions to respond dynamically to evolving circumstances to build a future-proof, pandemic-ready community precinct.”

Since the advent of COVID-19 in Indonesia in April 2020, Sinar Mas Land has been actively assisting those in need by providing meals, masks, hand sanitizers, disinfectants, medicine, vitamins, COVID-19 test kits, medical equipment, as well as hazmat suits for medical and public service personnel. Having launched its first vaccine drive in March 2021 with local government agencies, Sinar Mas Land has also helped administer vaccinations for about 54,000 people to date.

Mr Theodore Thenoch, Chief Executive Officer of Residential BSD City at Sinar Mas Land and Vice President Director of PT SMM Intermoda, said, “Sinar Mas Land continues to render our utmost support to the Indonesian government’s national vaccination efforts to achieve herd immunity. We are extremely pleased that Mitbana shares a similar vision as our first foreign partner to demonstrate solidarity with our Indonesian society. I hope this effort will positively impact our local communities, especially those living near Intermoda.”

Tangerang Regency Health Office's Head of Disease Prevention Control, Dr. Hendra Tarmizi expressed, “Sinar Mas Land has been helping us to accelerate the setting up of vaccination centres within BSD City. We are glad that Sinar Mas Land’s foreign partner like Mitbana, who is our first collaborator outside of Indonesia, is keen to also support our efforts to help get more people vaccinated. I hope our citizens will be motivated by their kind intention and come forward to take the vaccine to increase vaccination rates in our regency.”

In early July 2021, Sinar Mas Land’s holding group also joined a consortium of Indonesia and Singapore companies led by Temasek Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Temasek, to contribute over 11,000 oxygen concentrators to Indonesia hospitals. Since the start of the pandemic, Temasek Foundation has been working closely with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore to make provisions to and from Indonesia and Singapore possible; these include the supply of surgical masks, medical equipment and bedding sets. Temasek is the parent company of Surbana Jurong.
