Mitbana appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Singapore, 13 July 2022 – Mitbana, a joint venture company of Mitsubishi Corporation and Surbana Jurong, has appointed Mr Yap Shih Chia as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

As CEO, Mr Yap will drive Mitbana’s strategic growth as a leading urban development fund platform that transforms communities through innovative investment solutions. He will also spearhead Mitbana’s investments in urban development projects in ASEAN and South Asia. The company has been active in Indonesia, where it is partnering Sinar Mas Land to jointly develop over 100 hectares of greenfield land in BSD City into transit-oriented developments.

Mr Yap has over 20 years of experience in regional business development, corporate finance, private equity, strategic planning, real estate investments and developments. Prior to joining Mitbana, Mr Yap was Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, Strategy & New Business at Chye Thiam Maintenance Pte Ltd, an environmental services firm in Singapore. His responsibilities included charting the Group’s strategy, spearheading strategic investments, government liaison, corporate communications, new businesses, and sales and marketing activities within the Group.

Mr Yap has also held senior appointments across Singapore Exchange listed companies including TEE Land Limited and Stamford Land Corporation Ltd, where he was responsible for the acquisition, development, sales, disposal and repositioning of different real estate asset classes regionally.

Shih Chia takes over from Mr Pang Yee Ean, who has been Acting CEO of Mitbana since February 2022 and is a board member of Mitbana and CEO of Surbana Jurong Capital, the investment platform of Surbana Jurong that focuses on financing of infrastructure and urban development.

Annex: Profile of Mr Yap Shih Chia

Mr Yap Shih Chia (叶世佳), 44, has over 20 years of experience in regional business development, corporate finance, private equity, strategic planning, real estate investments and developments. Prior to joining Mitbana, Mr Yap was Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, Strategy & New Business at Chye Thiam Maintenance Pte Ltd, an environmental services firm in Singapore. His responsibilities included charting the Group’s strategy, spearheading strategic investments, government liaison, corporate communications, new businesses, and sales and marketing activities within the Group.

Mr Yap has more than a decade of experience in South Asia. As Centre Director (Mumbai) and Vice Consul (Commercial) from 2004 to 2007 at International Enterprise Singapore, he identified potential opportunities in the infrastructure and real estate sectors in Western India for Singapore companies. He is also on the boards of two MAS-registered Real Estate Private Equity funds since 2014. Both funds are sponsored by HDFC Limited, one of India's leading housing finance companies, and backed by strong global institutional investors, with the sole mandate to invest in Indian real estate.

Shih Chia graduated with Bachelor of Communications (2nd Upper Honours) from Nanyang Technological University and obtained a Master’s in Business Administration, with specialisation in Strategy and Organization, from the National University of Singapore. He is also a member of Singapore Institute of Directors and completed the Scale-up SG Executive Programme at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
